you may have noticed that our recipes are mainly of the vegetarian variety, because that’s just what we’re eating. but guess what? if you aren’t a vegetarian (and possibly even if you are) you know that bacon is really, very awesome. i needed to bring an appetizer for the meat eaters at a recent holiday party, and i thought, well… bacon, right?

here you go, the easiest app that you will ever make. and people are gonna love it!

you need:

bacon

dates

cheese of your choosing (go with bleu or goat and you can’t go wrong)

paper towel or cheese cloth or whatever you want to use to soak up grease

toothpicks

to do:

preheat oven to 375

take a date, slice it lengthwise

stuff it with cheese

wrap each date once around with raw bacon. i had to cut each strip into four sections to get the correct length.

stick a toothpick in it to hold all that good stuff together

repeat until either (a.) you’re out of bacon (b.) you’re out of dates or (c.) you’re out of room in the pan. up to you.

cook for about 40 minutes. check them and flip them all over after 20, and just keep an eye on them so that they don’t get too dark (note: they will still taste amazing, they just won’t be as pretty)

take the bacon-wrapped dates out of the pan and place them on paper towel. if you’re going green like the cute captain planet that you are, you can use cheese cloth. either way, you just want to soak up the grease.

ta-da! wrap the dates loosely in a aluminum foil pouch, and they’ll stay warm for about an hour.

bacon. as long as they aren’t vegetarians, you can’t go wrong.

side note: cooking bacon will make your house smell like bacon. like all day long. yuck. but don’t worry, because we have a solution for that:

toss about a cup of water, a handful of cloves, and a few dashes of cinnimon into a saucepan and let it simmer. your house will smell like holiday happiness in about 10  minutes. what bacon?
